Ronin and ROMW have fallen out, players' interests are harmed, Crisis of Confidence in Blockchain games.
Ronin and ROMW Ecosystem Games Split, Players' Interests Damaged
Recently, the development team of "Ragnarok: Monster World" (ROMW) announced the launch of a "multi-chain architecture" service on a new platform, triggering strong discontent within the community. Players accuse it of a "soft exit" behavior and are concerned about the potential damage to their rights.
Just two days later, an executive from a blockchain gaming company publicly accused ROMW of "ignoring suggestions and secretly signing contracts with others, seriously violating the cooperation agreement," and announced the termination of the cooperative relationship. This series of events has pushed the originally deep cooperation into a trust crisis, affecting not only the original platform ecosystem but also making ROMW's future development even more uncertain.
Both parties have their own claims, and the truth is elusive.
A senior executive from a blockchain gaming company posted on social media condemning the "betrayal" of the ROMW development team, claiming that they ignored suggestions and secretly signed contracts with other platforms, violating the cooperation agreement. Given the close cooperation between the two parties, this move is surprising. Due to the severe breach of trust, the company has decided to terminate its professional relationship with the ROMW development team.
ROMW denied this aspect, stating that no secret agreements had been reached and that all contractual obligations had been fulfilled. They claimed to have communicated transparently with the other party as early as last February, including direct meetings with senior management. ROMW also promised to continue operating the game on the original platform, regardless of any challenges that may arise in the future. They believe that decisions made without considering the interests of the community will ultimately harm the platform's uniqueness.
In this Rashomon incident, the actions and attitudes of both parties have left players and the community feeling disappointed. The truth is hard to discern, but the impact on players' interests is tangible.
From holding to stepping on, the change in attitude is puzzling.
In fact, the community players had already noticed a rift in the relationship between the two parties a day before the official announcement of the split. In a post promoting a new game, a certain executive publicly criticized ROMW, calling it "a poor imitation of Clash Royale." This contradictory attitude has left players baffled, as they were the ones who vigorously promoted ROMW in the early days, and now it is also them who are fiercely attacking it.
More controversially, company executives stated that they would delist ROMW and its assets from the platform products, including the removal of related NFTs. This decision has been questioned by the community, with some users believing it to be "an excessive display of centralization," which goes against the principles of an open blockchain.
ROMW "Looking for a New Love", Players' Interests Are Damaged
ROMW recently announced the launch of an independent version on a new platform, using a "multi-chain architecture". This means that game progress, token systems, and more will be completely separate from the original platform. The new version uses a different in-game token, with no exchange relationship to the original token.
This operation has caused strong dissatisfaction in the community, with players accusing it of being a "soft exit," believing that the developers have harvested a wave of investors before moving on to other projects. As a result, the prices of ROMW-related tokens and NFTs on the original platform have plummeted, and the investments made by players have almost gone to waste.
Players generally express anger and confusion towards ROMW's actions. Some developers analyze that ROMW's move may be to gain more resources and financial support. However, regardless of the reason, ROMW's reputation has already been damaged, and it will likely be quite difficult to rebuild an active player community.
In this turmoil, it is ultimately the players who believe in the platform and the game that are hurt. How to balance the interests of all parties in the blockchain game ecosystem remains a question worth pondering.
